Three Types of Provider

All three models are legitimate. They are built for different jobs. A dedicated theatre room and a bedroom TV mount are not the same project, and they are rarely served well by the same company.

    Retail Storefront

Sells product with installation available. The catalogue leads the conversation, and the purchase is usually the main event.

Best forSingle-product purchases and straightforward TV installs.
Typical limitationLimited system design and documentation, and little ownership of lighting, shades, or network.

    Contractor Subtrade

AV is handled as a line item by a builder or electrician, often subcontracted out to whoever is available during the build.

Best forSimple prewire in a new build where AV is a minor scope.
Typical limitationNo single accountable party when systems need to work together, and commissioning often falls through the cracks.

    Custom Integration Firm

Designs, documents, installs, programs, commissions, and supports the whole technology stack as one system.

Best forWhole-home control, multi-system projects, and properties that need to work reliably when nobody is there.
Typical limitationA design phase up front, and not the cheapest way to buy a single TV.

    What to Look For

Use this checklist on any quote, whether the work is a single audio video installation or a full smart home automation package. The answers tell you more than the price does.

    • Manufacturer certification level, not just "we carry that brand"
    • Engineered system drawings before installation starts
    • A written structured cabling standard
    • In-house programming rather than subcontracted
    • Documented rack builds with elevations
    • Commissioning and calibration as a defined phase
    • A written warranty and support agreement
    • Proof of insurance and WSIB clearance
    • Local service response time in winter

    Where Summit Logic Fits

Summit Logic is a custom integration firm. We are a Crestron Elite dealer and a Lutron Platinum dealer, and we work on a design-build model with full documentation: engineered drawings, rack elevations, and cable schedules before installation starts.

Programming is done in house, not subcontracted, and commissioning is a defined phase rather than an afterthought. Ongoing service runs through OneVision managed support, so there is one number to call after handover.
