The Brief
A contemporary new build for owners who wanted one platform for lighting, audio, video, shades, and HVAC. Crestron was specified during design development and coordinated with the builder through framing. The home sits in the Mountaincroft area, with views toward the escarpment and Pretty River Valley.
Scope
- Crestron lighting control across every interior and exterior zone
- Crestron distributed audio video with matrixed sources
- Motorized shades on principal living and primary suite windows
- Dedicated home theatre with calibrated surround
- Structured wiring and enterprise-grade networking backbone
The Approach
Crestron was specified at design stage so lighting, AV, shading, and HVAC shared one user interface and one control processor. Architectural keypads replaced standard switching. Every load was pre-mapped to scenes during framing. The homeowners live full-time in this Mountaincroft-area residence and use the system daily, so we tuned scenes around real morning and evening patterns.
The home theatre was built as a dedicated room with acoustic treatment, calibrated surround, and a hidden equipment rack. Shading and HVAC tie into Crestron schedules, so the home self-manages morning, evening, and away modes without owner intervention. The structured wiring backbone and UniFi network were sized for future growth — typical of contemporary new builds we deliver across Collingwood and the Indian Trail area.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why specify Crestron during design instead of after framing?
Crestron is most powerful when keypad locations, low-voltage runs, and load assignments are coordinated before drywall. We sit with the architect and builder during design development. The result is fewer keypads in better positions, no surface-mount conduit, and clean rack rooms. On a Mountaincroft-area new build, that coordination saved several change orders and let us deliver scenes that actually match how the home is used. Retrofitting Crestron later is possible but always costs more.
Can Crestron also control Lutron shades on the same project?
Yes. Lutron Sivoia and Palladiom shades integrate cleanly with Crestron Home and Crestron Pyng. The shades respond to Crestron scenes, schedules, and keypads as if they were native devices. On this Collingwood residence, the principal living and primary suite shades are tied to morning, daytime, and evening scenes. Owners use one keypad to drop shades, dim lights, and shift HVAC for movie mode. We use this combination across the Indian Trail and Pretty River Estates areas regularly.
How is the home theatre tuned in a dedicated room?
We built the theatre as an isolated room with acoustic treatment on the front wall, side walls, and rear corners. Speakers were positioned for proper geometry, then calibrated with Anthem Room Correction. The Anthem AVM processor handles bass management and channel timing. Equipment lives in a ventilated rack outside the room, so fan noise stays out of the listening environment. The result is consistent dialogue, accurate imaging, and clean low end on movie nights.
Will the network handle a contemporary Collingwood home with heavy AV traffic?
Yes. The UniFi backbone uses a Dream Machine Pro with PoE switches and Wi-Fi 6E access points. AV and IoT live on separate VLANs from the owner's main network. Wired backhaul carries 4K streams between rack room and displays without congesting WiFi. We size the network for future growth, including outdoor cameras and additional smart-home loads. This is the same architecture we deploy across Mountaincroft, Indian Trail, and the Lighthouse Point neighbourhood.
Do you service Crestron systems after the project closes?
Yes. Summit Logic services every Crestron system we install. We offer remote support for most programming changes and on-site service for hardware. Scenes, schedules, and keypad layouts evolve as families settle into a home, so we expect calls in the first six months and plan for them. A service agreement covers firmware updates, periodic health checks, and priority response. Crestron is in-house expertise — we do not outsource programming on systems we deliver in Collingwood.
