A media room is the room you already live in. It has windows, a fireplace, furniture facing several directions, and people walking through it.

The skill is not pretending those constraints do not exist. It is making the room sound and look excellent anyway, without turning it into something your family stops using.

Open concept rooms are difficult. Hard floors, vaulted ceilings, exposed timber, and a wall of glass all reflect sound rather than absorb it.

We work with that instead of against it. Speaker placement gets planned around where people actually sit, not around a diagram.

Dolby's own Atmos speaker setup guidance makes the same point, and recommends professional calibration because every room behaves differently.

Then we calibrate. Audyssey and Dirac room correction measure how your room responds and adjust for it. That is what fixes muddy dialogue and bass that only sounds right in one chair.

You should be able to hear what people say without reaching for the remote.

A projector in a bright room is a compromise nobody enjoys. Washed out, low contrast, and only usable after dark.

In most media rooms here we fit a large-format television instead. Modern panels stay bright and punchy with the curtains open, which matters when the best light of the day comes off the bay at four in the afternoon.

Where a projector genuinely suits the room, we pair it with motorised shades so the room can darken at the touch of one button.

Nobody wants a wall of black boxes in the living room.

In-ceiling and in-wall speakers disappear into the finishes. Paintable grilles match the ceiling. Subwoofers get placed where they perform rather than where they are visible.

Watch a film should be one button. The television comes on, the right input is selected, the sound routes correctly, and the lights come down. Watch hockey should be another.
