An office meeting room is a small box with carpet, ceiling tiles, and a fixed microphone near your face.

A chalet office is the opposite. Hard floors. High ceilings. A wall of glass facing the bay. Your voice bounces off all of it and arrives at the laptop microphone twice.

That is what people on the call hear as hollow or distant. It is not the microphone being cheap. It is the room.

Camera position and framing

A laptop camera sits below your chin and points up. Nobody looks good from there.

We mount the camera at eye level and set the framing so you fill the frame properly, with a bit of headroom. It is a small change that does more than any other single fix.

Lighting that does not wash you out

If the window is behind you, the camera exposes for the window and turns you into a shadow. Every afternoon, as the sun swings over the bay, it gets worse.

We light your face from the front and control what is behind you. Where the room already has smart lighting control, we build a call scene into it. One button, correct light, every time.

Microphones and room echo

A microphone close to you beats an expensive one far away. Every time.

We place the microphone properly and, where the room needs it, add some soft treatment that does not look like a recording studio. A rug, a panel behind the desk, curtains that actually close. Small changes, large difference.

Everyone shops for internet by download speed. Video calls barely use it.

When you are on camera, you are broadcasting. That is upload. And upload is usually a small fraction of what you are paying for.

Microsoft's own network guidance for Teams is a useful reality check: Teams is deliberately conservative with bandwidth and prioritises audio over video when there is not enough to go around. That is why your call turns into a slideshow before it turns silent.

So we test upload at the desk, not at the router. Then we fix whatever is in between.

Wi-Fi is fine for a phone. For four hours of daily video calls, run a cable.

A wired connection removes the interference, the roaming between access points, and the drop that happens when someone starts streaming downstairs. We are Ubiquiti and UniFi Certified, and a wired drop to the office is usually the cheapest fix on the whole list.
